  • Ellie Goulding married art dealer Caspar Jopling on August 31, 2019, at York Minster Cathedral in North Yorkshire, England. The couple had been dating for over two years before tying the knot.

"By the End Of The Night" is an '80s throwback with a message from Goulding to her hubby: She's ready for a wild night out. "With you, feel like the summer, Saturday upper, I want you," Goulding sings, not wanting to wait for the fun to start. And, likening her love to a new type of drug, Goulding describes the high she gets from her partner as an "upper" - a substance that makes you feel pumped and buzzing.
  • Ellie Goulding wrote the euphoric dance-pop tune with Brandon Campbell and the song's producer, Stephen "Koz" Kozmeniuk. The euphoric vibe and upbeat tempo provide a much-needed escape from the weight of the world.

"I feel like we've all been through such a lot over the last few years, we're still processing everything. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like we need music that uplifts us and makes us feel good and that's exactly how I feel about 'By The End Of The Night,'" Goulding told Apple Music. "It gives me a sense of euphoric, sensual escape, like being on a dancefloor on another planet... something that was appealing back in the late 80's… where this track could have easily come from!"
  • Goulding recorded "By The End Of The Night" for her fifth album, Higher Than Heaven. She wrote the album in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. "I just wanted to go back into the studio and write big pop records that didn't require me to go deep into my own mind and be in my feelings. I have always loved electronic and dance music, so I got to explore that so much more," said Goulding. "Nobody was in the mood for downbeat."

"There was definitely a darkness about that was palpable in the studio, with everyone having gone through it differently" she added. "I think for that reason, nobody wanted to sit and agonize over some relationship or some drama. So that's how this album came together."
  • Ellie Goulding scored her first UK double when Higher Than Heaven's debut at #1 on the albums chart coincided with "Miracle" topping the singles chart for a second week.
