According to promotional materials, this collaboration with R&B singer Ciara is inspired by "love and loss."
This was produced by RedOne who also co-wrote the song with songwriter Frankie Storm and Iglesias. RedOne is best known for his work with Lady Gaga ("Just Dance," "Poker Face").
Another version of this upbeat dance track was recorded featuring German singer Sarah Connor rather than Ciara. This was released in some European countries including Germany and Poland.
Iglesias debuted the song on the French TV show Star Academy. He performed it as a duet with one of the contestants, Gaultier. The performance propelled the song into the Top 3 of the French singles chart.
The Prince-penned "Manic Monday" was the first song The Bangles heard coming from a car radio, but "Eternal Flame" is closest to Susanna's heart, perhaps because she sang it in "various states of undress."
