Songfacts®:

  • On a pregnancy test, two pink lines means the lady is pregnant. In this song, Eric Church sings out a scenario where a young, hardy committed couple are worried they got one past the goalie. As they get the test and wait for the results, he thinks about what he'll do if those two pink lines show up. With his values, that means marrying the girl (if her dad doesn't murder him) and raising the child - quite a life changer!

In the end, the test is negative, so they can rest easy and move on with their lives.
  • The song tells the real-life story of an anxious wait for the results of a pregnancy test when Church was a teenager. "I have this song about pregnancy. It's a personal song for me, because two pink lines happened to me when I was unmarried and a teenager," he confessed at the CMA Songwriters series in 2010. "When I first played this for my mom, I was expecting her to be really bothered by it. She goes, 'I love that song. Why are you singing about two pink lions?' I said, 'Mom, I happen to love lions; I'm a big cat fan.' It took her a long time to figure it out."
  • "Two Pink Lines" is part of Eric Church's 2006 debut album, Sinners Like Me. Back then, he was scruffy looking and you could clearly see his brown eyes. By his third album, Chief in 2011, he was one of country music's biggest stars and was usually seen wearing Aviator sunglasses.
