  • Erica Falls is a singer-songwriter who writes true-to-life lyrics, but sometimes she likes to imagine herself taking risks she'd never take in real life, which is how "One Stop Shop," a single from her Emotions album, came about.

She told the Songfacts Podcast in 2024: "By nature, I'm an introvert, and that song came about by me saying, 'What if I decided to be the assertive one when approaching a guy... being a little sassy.' That's how I ended up pinning in the story behind 'One Stop Shop,' and the lady going to the guy saying, 'I hear you've been looking for someone that'll treat you right, love away all your hurts, make you feel good inside.' I expounded upon that a little bit, in almost like a role reversal. Okay, so I'll be the one to say, 'Hey, I like that guy, so I'm going to approach him and, like they say, shoot my shot.' The feeling of romance is what I wanted, when you're meeting someone and you're excited."
  • Songwriters are expected to lay their souls bare in their lyrics, which can be difficult for introverts who are more comfortable keeping their feelings private. Falls credits her team of collaborators on her first two albums, including her producer Nick Mercadel, for helping draw her out of her shell and make music that resonates with her listeners.

"They were like, 'Nah, you're shying away when you say this, so go back in and really sing it from the heart, don't shy away from this lyric,' or, 'How are you going to say this line? Because that may be what someone needs to really hear to help them with whatever they're going through,'" she recalled.

"They helped me really convey and tell my story in these songs and to learn to be vulnerable to say, 'Okay, you wrote this, you wrote these lyrics, now you really have to get in and tell the story.'"
  • This was originally issued in 2022 as the B-side to the single "Let's Get Down Tonight." Falls wrote the upbeat tracks back in 2019 before the pandemic took hold. The idea for "One Stop Shop," which features rapper Chali 2na, was sparked by an Instagram story.

"My friend Mike Bass, formerly of Trombone Shorty, was making these videos on IG of short loops of grooves he wrote, and I connected to this one immediately and started writing to the short loop," Falls told American Blues Scene in 2022.

"That's when I called him and said, 'Hey dude, I've started to write to this, and we need to stretch this loop. Create a structure so I can finish writing to it.' From there we took it to my producer, Nick Mercadel, to work his magic and as they say, the rest is history."
