Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the first single by American rapper-songwriter Eve, from her Lip Lock album. The track features Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta. It leaked online on February 28, 2013.

Lip Lock was Eve's first album since Eve-Olution in 2002. After that album, she focused on acting, including her UPN sitcom, Eve. She planned an album for 2007, but it was quashed after a series of delays, although the song "Give It To You," featuring Sean Paul, was issued as a single.
  • Eve explained the song's meaning to Radio.com: "It's a song about struggling," she said, "and being in a dark place. Or you can take it literally - being in your hometown and feeling like you need to get out of your hometown because you have bigger dreams and aspirations. It's a positive record. I'm now the ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and that song is dedicated to them."
