Songfacts®:

  • In our interview with Flyleaf lead singer Kristen May, she said that this song is about "the feeling of people wanting to control you."

May says that we're all constantly stereotyping, trying to categorize people we meet, and it's very difficult when you are perceived as someone you aren't. That's what she faced when she took over as Flyleaf lead singer, replacing their beloved frontwoman Lacey Sturm.

"Once I joined Flyleaf, I really felt like people were comparing me to Lacey, and I'm not Lacey," she said. "I've never even met her in real life. I joined this new band to show who I am."

  • A Person from A PlaceI like to think of this song as being about those things that control your life, and just don’t let you escape the cycle. You try to get out of it and not have this thing controlling your life, but it’s hard. But take the song for what you will, whether it’s the intended meaning or your own.
