Songfacts®:

  • "Silent Treatment" is a breakup song without the slam of a door or even a last argument. Freye Skye transforms her emotional pain of being ghosted by her ex into an anthem addressing the frustration that many experience in failed relationships.
  • The track opens with a somber, acoustic guitar as Skye details the manipulation and mixed signals used by the ex during their relationship. When he walks out on her there's no goodbye note, no explanation, not even the courtesy of a badly spelled text. The cruel twist is, she has absolutely no idea why he left her.
  • Fans of the "silent treatment" canon will recognize shades of Morgan Wallen's "Lies Lies Lies," Alicia Keys' "How Come You Don't Call Me," Charlie Puth's "We Don't Talk Anymore" and The Last Dinner Party's "This Is the Killer Speaking."
  • Skye wrote "Silent Treatment" alongside singer-songwriter Sophie Simmons and Max Margolis, who helped give Laufey's "Best Friend" its soft emotional ache and Kesha's "Too Hard" its cathartic sting. Margolis also shared production duties with J Moon, who also worked on Miley Cyrus' "You" and Louis Tomlinson's "The Greatest."
  • The inspiration came from a person close to Skye who pulled a disappearing act. "I think a lot of us have gone through this," she said. "I came into the studio that day feeling particularly upset about it, but I'm super proud of the result."
  • Freya Skye released the song on December 2, 2025, less than two months after she turned 16.
