Songfacts®:

  • This song was inspired by the warnings Wigmore was getting about her fiancé, and her refusal to act on them. She explained to Artist Direct: "I have a really tough time listening to if something is bad or good for me. I have to go through the experience myself to see if something is bad for me."

"It is directly related to a relationship that I was in. People would say that I should reconsider if I want to be with this dude or not - I didn't listen, and I put myself through hell. It was 'Written In the Water' so to speak, so that I had to discover things on my own."

Wigmore split from the guy and ended up moving from Sydney to Los Angeles in 2013. A year later, she married Jason Butler of the punk band Letlive.
  • In our interview with Gin Wigmore, we asked her when she knew it was "written in the water" that she had to get out of this relationship. Her reply: "When I starting making decisions from my heart, not my head."
  • The video was directed by Zachariah de Cairo and stars Wigmore and her husband Jason Butler as an outlaw couple who are caught by a local sheriff and marched to their deaths in a swamp. Wigmore, bound and gagged, had to be tossed overboard as part of the shoot, with a diver coming to get her after she had been sufficiently submerged. Wigmore said the shoot was "the most intense thing I've ever done."

Later, another video was made for the song as a prequel, showing the duo's crime spree and how they grabbed the cash. This video was labeled the "Live However" version, with the other one called "Die Regardless."
