  • Many fans resented the band's mainstream popularity of their previous album, The Young and the Hopeless, and accused them of selling out. "At the time, we took it to heart," Joel confessed to Alter the Press. "By the end of the record cycle we had gotten a little bitter and you can hear that on our next album [The Chronicles of Life and Death]. We felt rejected and abandoned and I wish I had the understanding then that I did now of how things work out and the acceptance I have of people and their feelings. I could have enjoyed that record a little more. That’s not to say we didn't have a lot of good times, because we had a wild ride, but there was a side of it which was really hard to deal with, like feeling abandoned by a scene which we really loved."
  • Billy Martin on the album title (to Kerrang! magazine): "It's funny because the name of the record came up before we'd even started working on it. We talked about what we wanted to do on this record and Joel told us that he was writing a lot about death and things that you think about before you die, so it just seemed to fit perfectly."
  • Joel Madden on the album's theme of mortality: "We've all experienced death in our lives, but the idea that death is always over your shoulder is very romantic to me. It’s the one thing you can’t control. I’m not obsessed with death, but I’m very conscious of it and I’m not afraid to talk about it."

for one good charlotte has changed. they arnt punk anymore. in my own opinion i think they are a lil emo now. they are getting better with every cd! and yes their listeners go to a pretty low age which does get on my nerves, but that doesnt mean they arnt a good band! and besides they speak the truth and arnt afraid of their haters. i look up to them and im not afraid to say it.

  • Rach from Norfolk, EnglandThis song is saying how everyone is equal. Its also saying that you hav to spend the time u hav in life wisly. Don't stick to ok, go do the things u want.
  • Secret from Tipton, MoThis song is so true! Speak your mind always! Let people know how you feel it makes you feel better and may or may not make them feel good. Everyone deserves to know the cold hearted honest truth, even if it is sure to hurt them. Give them what they deserve wether it be a punch in the face or the truth.
    ~peace out~
    ~love you all!

  • Sare from Act, Australiayeah this song rocks and it is very true, how you cant worry too much about this life. how it says, "these are the chronicles of life and death and everything between" it makes me think that our birth and death are the only two really significant events to us, and everything else in the middle is just to fill time until you die.
  • Cate from Bismarck, NdThis song means a lot to me it makes me think of how people have different perspectives while living and about death....Its kind of a wakeup call that 'hey....things can get worse but only if u dwell on your negativity.....-peace-
