Songfacts®:

  • Makonnen Sheran is an American R&B and hip-hop recording artist from Atlanta, Georgia who records under the name of IloveMakonnen. In July 2014, the singer released his self-titled debut EP, which included the single "Club Goin' Up on a Tuesday." The song was helmed by Atlanta producers Sonny Digital and Metro Boomin.

Drake got to hear the song and reached out to Sonny Digital asking the producer if he could remix it. Sonny Digital called Makonnen to ask what he thought and the young singer agreed to send the beat to Drake, but didn't think much of it. However, two days later Drake released a remix to the song, much to Makonnen's surprise. "It just dropped on the Internet and I was like, Damn, I can't believe he did that," he recalled to MTV News with a smile.
  • When the "Tuesday" remix entered the Hot 100 at #90, it was Drake's 72nd single to enter the chart. In doing so he overtook the Beatles 71 singles to be featured on the tally, putting him in eight place overall. (In case you're wondering the Glee Cast has the most entries in the Hot 100 of all time. Drake has a lot of catching up to do as the TV show collective had accumulated 207 appearances as at the date this song entered the chart).
  • The Goodwin-directed video follows the theme of the song as IloveMakonnen parties in the club with Drake. There are also plenty of creepy mannequin heads, which are a reference to the singer's degree in cosmetology. Naturally Makonnen dropped the clip on a Tuesday (October 21, 2014).

Keep an eye out for cameos from rapper G-Eazy and OVO Sound signings Majid Jordan and OB O'Brien.
  • IloveMakonnen stopped by The Tonight Show on December 10, 2014 to perform the weeknight out anthem live on TV for the first time with help from the Roots. The OVO singer earned some kudos from his boss by wearing a TOPSZN T-shirt, which are sold by Drake's label.
