This is the second track on Islander's sophomore album, Power Under Control. "'Bad Guy' is a song about speaking the truth, telling someone something that they need to hear even though it may not be what that person wants to hear,' explained vocalist Mikey Carvajal. "This song is the response to [opening track] 'Darkness.'"
Carvajal added: "The songs on Power Under Control are meant to be listened to together in the same way that a book is to be read. If someone were to skip the chapters in a book, the story may be exciting, but a lot of the meanings would be lost."
It has long been speculated that the Soundgarden song "Black Hole Sun" came from the name of a sculpture in Seattle, but according to their frontman Chris Cornell the title came from a phrase he misheard on the news. The band's name did come from a sculpture.
Carla Thomas became the first woman to achieve a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 with a song she wrote herself when "Gee Whiz (Look At His Eyes)" reached the chart's top tier in 1961. Thomas was just 16-years-old when she penned it.
