Songfacts®:

  • Jessie Murph unleashes a full-frontal assault on heartbreak in "Dirty." No punches are pulled as she delivers a scathing indictment of her errant lover. Her voice, raw and powerful, is a wrecking ball of emotion, leaving no doubt about the depth of her pain.

"When someone f---s you over do you wallow and feel sorry for yourself? Or do you make them sorry for what they did?" Murph told Rolling Stone about the song.
  • Teddy Swims, who released his breakout hit "Lose Control" a year earlier, steps into the ring halfway through as the apologetic antagonist. His soulful vocals offer a counterpoint to Murph's raw intensity as he tries to explain away his infidelity. But his pleas fall on deaf ears, lost in the echo of her shattered heart.
  • Murph co-wrote the song with Trevor Brown, Cleo Tighe, Jaten Dimsdale, Jeff Gitty, Oak Felder, and Zaire Koalo. Brown, Felder, and Koalo also took on production duties for the track. Jeff Gitty previously worked with Murph when she collaborated with another powerhouse vocalist, Jelly Roll, on "Wild Ones."
  • The song's music video, helmed by director Erik Rojas (Jessie J, Train), transports viewers to a fictional early 2000s-style game show called Dirty, where Murph dishes out some well-deserved payback to her ex. Teddy Swims appears during the show's advertising break.
