Songfacts®:

  • Jim McCarty, who was the drummer in The Yardbirds before forming the progressive rock band Renaissance, describes his solo album Sitting On The Top Of Time as having a theme of living in the present moment. This is one of his favorites from the album. He told us: "'Living From the Inside Out' is about coming from the inside, how you live your life, rather than letting everything else affect you. Capturing a strength inside and living from that, as opposed to relying on everything else for your life." (Here's the full Jim McCarty interview.)
  • Steve Hackett from Genesis played lead guitar on this track. Other musicians were Ron Korb on flute, Donald Quan on piano and viola, George Koller on bass, Ray Hickey, Jr. on acoustic guitar, and Anne Bourne on cello. McCarty sang and played acoustic guitar and drums.
