Songfacts®:

  • "Angel Pt. 1" is a collaboration between Jimin from BTS, rappers NLE Choppa and Kodak Black, R&B songstress Muni Long, and TikTok-star-turned-singer JVKE. They recorded the song for the 2023 American action film Fast X, the 10th main installment in the Fast & Furious franchise.
  • The song delves into the theme of releasing someone from a relationship when you recognize you're not good for them. Sometimes the best course of action is to let them go for their own well-being.

JVKE and Jimin kick off the song with the chorus, where they urge the titular angelic girl to walk away. They acknowledge her pure nature, emphasizing that staying with them would only corrupt her innocence.

In the second chorus, Muni Long joins in, reinforcing the warning not to get to get too close to darkness.

Kodak Black takes the first verse. He's leaving behind a destructive lifestyle, opting instead to create a brighter future for the person he loves. Kodak sees how he has to give up bad habits to nurture a healthier relationship.

NLE Choppa takes the stage for the second verse, finding a pathway to rise above darkness by learning from the past. He emphasizes the importance of understanding what truly matters in life; with that knowledge, one can overcome any obstacles.
  • The record label Artist Partner released "Angel Pt. 1" as a single on May 18, 2023, the day before they dropped the soundtrack album.
  • Choppa knows what it takes to create a fast-paced and high-energy track for the Fast and Furious franchise, having recorded "Speed It Up," for the F9 soundtrack in 2021.

"Just knowing how conscious you have to be on the purity of the song - not only showcasing the type of artist you are as a person but also knowing that the whole world is about to hear it," he told Pop Sugar. "So, 'What about NLE Choppa do you want the whole world to take away from this song?' And that was simply [that] I could step up to the plate and do a song on the caliber it can hit with everyone and relate with the whole world."

"My verse was mainly speaking to people that are family-oriented, speaking to people that want to go through triumph, speaking to people that keep God first in their life, and just things of that nature," he added. "So, just knowing that the whole world is going to hear it, and I just wanted to speak to them."
  • Marc Nilan Jr. and Danny Majic created the piano-based beat.

Best known for his Lady Gaga collaborations ("The Cure," "Is That Alright," "Look What I Found"), Nilan has also worked with B.o.B. and Kevin Gates.

Danny Majic's resumé also includes collaborations with Louis Tomlinson ("Too Young"), Lecrae ("Drown") and Skylar Grey ("Last One Standing").
  • The music video shows the five artists performing in spectacular settings. As the song unfolds, viewers are treated to shots of them delivering their verses from rooftops and within fast-moving vehicles, amplifying the sense of exhilaration.

Jimin and Muni Long share captivating moments together, their voices intertwining as they croon the chorus. Their scene unfolds on a vibrant soundstage enveloped by psychedelic visuals that add a mesmerizing element to the performance.
  • Charlie Puth teamed up with JVKE, Jimin and Muni Long for "Angel Pt. 2." Released on June 15, 2023, the song builds on the original "Angel Pt. 1."

Puth takes the stage in the latter half of the piano-driven song. He urges the titular girl to embark on her journey with caution, ensuring she keeps safe no matter where her path may wander.

Charlie Puth previously contributed "See You Again" to the Furious 7 soundtrack of the Fast & Furious franchise in 2015.
