Songfacts®:

  • Skylar Grey co-wrote and recorded this epic track for the 2021 Marvel Comics movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage. It serves as the film's official theme song.
  • Grey croons the chorus and bridge, during which she refutes accusations she had an easy rise to the top. People don't see all the struggles and sacrifices she's made, and all the "monsters" she's had to fight. These past dark times have molded her into a survivor who is the "last one standing."
  • Polo G, Mozzy and Eminem each rap a verse about getting through hard times.
  • This is the second time Eminem has been involved with a Venom movie. He previously recorded "Venom," the official theme song to the original film in the franchise.
  • "Last One Standing" is Grey's fourth venture into comic book spinoffs. She wrote two songs for 2016's Suicide Squad: Her track "Wreak Havoc" and Kehlani's tune, "Gangsta." Grey's 2018 single "Everything I Need" is the end credits song in Aquaman.
  • Skylar Grey and Eminem are frequent collaborators. They both feature on Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor," and Eminem jumped on Grey's "C'mon Let Me Ride" and "Kill For You." Grey also penned the hook for Eminem's hit single with Rihanna, "Love The Way You Lie."
  • "Last One Standing" marks the first time both Grey and Eminem have worked with either Polo G or Mozzy.
  • The producers are:

DJ Frank E (Flo Rida's " Right Round," Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again").

Danny Majic (Louis Tomlinson's "Too Young," Lecrae's "Drown").
