Songfacts®:

  • "Mr. Saturday Night" opens with the chorus where Jon Pardi explains why his friends call him "Mr. Saturday Night." The singer spends every Saturday night in the bar, where he is the high-spirited life of the party, smoking, drinking, smiling and winking. His pals only see him in this "neon light," unaware he's masking a heartache. When Sunday comes, Pardi returns home to an empty house. He's full of regrets that he messed up and lost his girl.
  • Benjy Davis, Reid Isbell and Joe Ragosta wrote "Mr. Saturday Night." It juxtaposes uptempo instrumentation, soaked in fiddle and steel guitar, with melancholic lyrics about a desolate guy who hides his blues when out with his friends. "I feel like everybody wants to be Mr. Saturday Night at one point on the weekend and have a good time," said Pardi. "But then you hear the song and – the way it's so well written – it's a sad song, but you don't go there right away, because it's also a fun song. That's the thing about 'Mr. Saturday Night,' it's more than meets the eye. It's all fun until you get to the chorus."
  • "Mr. Saturday Night" is the title track of Pardi's fourth studio album. Following the success of 2019's Heartache Medication, the California-born honky-tonker teamed up again with Bart Butler and Ryan Gore to produce the record.
