Songfacts®:

  • "Back It Up" is a collaboration between Manchester-based DJ-producer Josh Baker and London producer-vocalist Omar+. It blends bass-heavy minimal house with deep tech, a dash of UK garage, and a slick R&B sensibility.
  • While Omar+'s lyrics touch on themes of needing closure after a relationship falters and the desire to keep trying for love, he set out to capture the feeling of being in the club at peak time, when inhibitions drop and the crowd moves as one.
  • The collaboration came about after Omar+ was invited to Baker's show in London by his friend Bianca (she'd lent vocals to some of Baker's earlier tracks). Impressed by Baker's set, he sent him some demos the very next day. One of them, "Back It Up," immediately jumped out.

Josh Baker wasted no time. Baker quickly reworked the beat, retaining some of Omar+'s original synths, and within 24 hours the track was finished.
  • Baker released "Back It Up" on March 21, 2025 as the debut single on his imprint, Baker's Dozen. The song caught fire almost instantly, becoming a standout across the UK's deep house and minimal tech circuit, and popping up in clubs from Birmingham to Berlin.
