Songfacts®:

  • "GTA 6" is one of eight new tracks on ADHD 2: Reloaded, Joyner Lucas' deluxe rerelease of his 2025 album, ADHD 2. The song takes its name from Grand Theft Auto VI. Joyner compares the video game franchise's popularity to his own career trajectory and flaunts his success in the faces of his haters. He likens the buzz surrounding his new music to GTA fans eagerly anticipating the game's latest installment: "n---as waitin' for the drop like GTA 6, let's go."
  • "GTA 6" is the album's second single, following "Monsters."
  • Lucas' 2020 debut album, ADHD, deals with the rapper's experiences growing up with the neurodivergent disorder when he was often told by adults that he'd never succeed in life due to his struggles. Its sequel, ADHD 2, continues to explore the theme. Even though Lucas has proven all of his childhood naysayers wrong by becoming a rap star, he still has to deal with people who want to hold him back. His ex claims ADHD is a kids' disease a grown man shouldn't be complaining about on the breakup track "Tear Me Down" and his haters in the music industry want to silence him on "GTA 6":

The industry been on my back and they mad I made it
I'll probably be another rapper assassinated
    .
  • Lucas takes a jab at his critics and "Esskeetit" rapper Lil Pump at the same time. In the second verse, he says, "If you don't like me, then you probably like Lil Pump (Esskeetit)." Around the time Lucas blew up with the viral track "I'm Not Racist" in 2017, he did a remix of Pump's "Gucci Gang" that was interpreted as a diss track, but Lucas denied the accusation and said he was a fan of the young Florida rapper. The new beef was likely instigated by Lil Pump's tirade on Instagram in early 2026, where he made fun of Lucas' name and said he'd spit on his kids.
  • Lucas made his major-label debut after he signed with Atlantic Records and released his mixtape 508-507-2209 in 2017. For his first full-length album, he left the label and self-released ADHD through his own company, Twenty Nine Music Group. He references his independent move in the song's second verse, which is also a glimpse at his frenetic creative process:

I'm independent and n---as wonderin' how I did it
I took the pen and then wrote a million miles per minute

In a 2022 Billboard interview, Lucas said his songwriting typically takes place in his car while he's parked outside places that evoke nostalgic memories in his hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts. He went on to explain how he reaches a creative flow state:

"I definitely make sure I take a nice long nap before I get in my creative zone. I listen to tons of beats until I find one that speaks to me. The beat usually tells me what the song will be about. Then most likely I'm already creating the video in my head and I'm using that as a reference when I'm writing. I never eat when I'm in that zone. Eating will make me tired and then I might get lazy. I'm almost always in my car when I write because it helps me from being distracted and doing things that sidetrack me."
  • The Grand Theft Auto series takes players through the criminal underworld as they help shady characters gain power by completing various missions. In the music video for "GTA 6," directed by Dom "Tanj" Bruno, Lucas is a GTA gangster who goes to war on the streets of Worcester, Massachusetts, starting with a shootout with the police. Throughout the clip, he acquires clothes and weapons that help him complete his missions.
