This sentimental song, which Kellie Pickler co-wrote with her husband Kyle Jacob, finds the singer recalling the holiday celebrations she spent growing up in North Carolina with her grandmother. "[It's] a Christmas song that we wrote back in July," Pickler told Rolling Stone Country. "My grandmother raised me and was the one I called 'Mom.' It's a sweet Christmas ballad about Christmas with her growing up."
Phil Oakey recorded his vocals for "Don't You Want Me" in the studio bathroom. The recording was disrupted by guitarist Jo Callis reaching through an open window from outside to repeatedly flush one of the toilets.
