Songfacts®:

  • Kid Rock first covered Cody Johnson's 2021 hit "'Til You Can't" at Arizona's Hondo Rodeo Fest in Phoenix on November 8, 2025. He was filling in for Cody Johnson, who had been forced to cancel several performances after undergoing emergency surgery for a burst eardrum.
  • When Kid Rock asked Cody Johnson's permission to record his own version of "'Til You Can't," Johnson's first instinct was to check with the song's writers, Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers, rather than give an immediate yes. Rock won him over by explaining he wanted to add a new verse because the song, which covers cherishing life's moments, never mentioned God. He told Johnson, "You can only ask forgiveness and get to know Jesus until you can't." The conversation left Johnson with goosebumps, and he gave his full blessing.
  • Kid Rock's new verse was inspired by the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The added verse earned Kid Rock a co-writing credit on the song alongside the original writers.
  • Kid Rock premiered his studio version of the song during Turning Point USA's "All-American Halftime Show" on February 8, 2026, an alternative event staged to coincide with the NFL's Super Bowl LX halftime show headlined by Bad Bunny. The studio recording was released at midnight the same night on his Top Dog Records label.
  • "'Til You Can't" gave Kid Rock his first-ever #1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart (dated February 21, 2026). It also crossed over to Hot Country Songs (#14), Hot Rock & Alternative Songs (#9), and the Billboard Hot 100 (#69), his first Hot 100 appearance since "First Kiss" in 2015.
