Songfacts®:

  • Killswitch Engage started kicking around ideas for their Atonement album back in 2017. However, in the middle of the process, singer Jesse Leach developed scar tissue in his throat, forcing him to undergo surgery and subsequent vocal therapy. The tracks on the record reflect the trying and turbulent two-year period it took to record the disc.
  • This pummeling song finds Leach reflecting on how his trials and suffering released his anger. "Unleashed is about inner passion and rage coming up to the surface," he explained. "We all have that wild within that often stays dormant until a tragic event triggers and awakens it. This song is about that awakening within."
