• Kings Of Leon frontman Caleb Followill has a long history of wearing his heart on his sleeve in his lyrics. • The song was sparked by an accident that was far less poetic than the music it inspired. While playing tag with his kids before bed in the spring of 2026, Caleb Followill tried to hurdle a couch, caught his foot, and suffered a severe fracture, just before Kings of Leon were set to leave for a European tour.
  
  "I thought I was in better shape than I was, so I was going to hurdle the couch to make the epic tag," he told The Associated Press. "It was a gnarly, gnarly break."
  
  After spending a few days wallowing in self-pity, Caleb picked up an acoustic guitar. What emerged was a stripped-down, melancholic track that reminded him of the quiet music he and his drummer brother Nathan used to write before Kings of Leon ever existed.

  Caleb was looking at a countdown on the wall marking the days until a family cruise.
• "My Whole World" was released on September 10, 2026 as the lead single from Kings of Leon's tenth album, O My Beloved. Caleb was initially nervous about playing the acoustic-driven track for his bandmates. It was a departure from his usual guitar approach, and the lyrics felt unusually raw.
  
  "I wasn't in control of it. The words were just coming out," he explained. As he wrote, Followill found himself confronting lingering grief over his mother's passing alongside the emotional toll of balancing fatherhood with 25 years in a touring rock band.
  
  That sudden shift in mood ended up reshaping the entire record. The band had already been working on four or five heavier, electric-driven songs, but the raw honesty of "My Whole World" made those energetic tracks feel out of place. Instead, they scrapped that direction and began building an album centered on family, memory, and gratitude.
• O My Beloved was Kings of Leon's first self-produced album. "The songs just really started to pile up one after another, and it became apparent that there could be something there. Let's just dive in, no hesitation from us," bassist Jared Followill explained.
• Billed as the band's "most intimate and unguarded record to date," O My Beloved is a contrast to the expansive, festival-scaled sound the band had leaned into for over two decades.
  
  "I thought, wouldn't it be beautiful to make an album that is looking back on all of the things that we've done and appreciating how we got here," said Caleb Followill. "In the songs, there's our families, stories from our childhood, things that maybe didn't seem that significant at the time, but the way they find their way into these songs kind of lets me realize how impactful they really were in my life."
• The music video, directed by regular collaborator Casey McGrath, mirrors the song's introspective mood. New performance footage is intercut with archival home movies of the Followills growing up, showing Christmas mornings, kids messing around, and summer afternoons at the local swimming hole.
• Kings of Leon debuted "My Whole World" live during a surprise, intimate show at Nashville's Basement East on September 10, 2026. Performing a 24-song, career-spanning set that featured fan favorites like "Sex on Fire," and "Use Somebody," the band also brought out country star Zach Bryan to guest on their track "Bowery."
