Songfacts®:

  • This yearning country rocker sees Kip Moore envisioning how it would be if the object of his desire was in fact his. The singer co-wrote the song with Matt Bubel (Tenille Arts' "Territory," AJ Mitchell's "Spring Break") during the initial lockdown. As they played music late into the night, Bubel came up with the opening keyboard riff.

"My melody immediately fell out when I heard it but was unsure of what I wanted to say," Moore recalled. "It had such a hypnotic feel about it and I listened to the recording of only that piece for the next few nights."

Several mornings later, Moore woke up with the whole lyric for "If I Was Your Lover" in his head.
  • Moore co-produced the volume-up, groove-driven anthem with Bubel and the Cadillac Three's Jaren Johnston. He released it as a single on August 26, 2022.
  • Directed by Moore's longtime collaborator PJ Brown, the cinematic and sultry video features country artist Morgan Wade as the singer's love interest. Shot in Charleston, South Carolina, the dreamy clip imagines an alternate reality in which Moore and Wade are a carefree couple in love.
