• Lamb Of God are heavyweights on the metal scene, carrying the torch for the genre in the 2000s along with Killswitch Engage and Mastodon. Their most popular songs are from that decade: "Laid To Rest" (2004) and "Redneck" (2006).
• In Christianity, the Lamb Of God is Jesus. The band chose the name because of the striking contrast with their aggressive music and often apocalyptic lyrics. Also, their original name was Burn The Priest, so they were already using Christian nomenclature (they changed to Lamb Of God in 1998). They certainly won't be confused with any CCM acts, but they've made it clear they aren't anti-Christian.
• The band formed in 1994 (as Burn The Priest) at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. At first they were just instrumental, but that changed when Randy Blythe joined in 1995 at the invitation of guitarist Abe Spear. At the time, Blythe was working restaurant jobs in the Richmond area but much more interested in making music.
• Their "Redneck" music video is quite memorable. The concept: Lamb Of God is hired to play a children's birthday party. "It has absolutely nothing to do with the lyrics, but it's just a fun concept," Randy Blythe told Songfacts. "We had strippers on the bus, because we wanted to make it as ridiculous as possible. It was great. But the neighbors were completely freaked out."
• Randy Blythe spent five weeks in a Czech prison in a Kafkaesque chain of events that started when Lamb Of God played a show in Prague on May 24, 2010. Some fans rushed the stage, and when Blythe pushed one of them off, the fan hit his head on the floor and later died from his injuries. Blythe had no idea the fan was injured, and he didn't know there was a warrant out for his arrest, so when the band returned to the Czech Republic on June 27, 2012 to play a show the next night, he was met by police and charged with manslaughter. He wasn't released until that August, and after a trial in 2013, he was cleared of charges.
• Blythe wrote two songs while imprisoned in the Czech Republic: "Still Echoes" and "512," which both landed on the 2015 Lamb Of God album VII: Sturm und Drang. "512" was the number of his prison cell.
• Founding drummer Chris Adler - widely regarded as one of the finest metal drummers of his time - left the band in 2019 after a 2017 motorcycle accident shattered his collarbone and right shoulder and left bone chips in his hip. His replacement, Art Cruz, had already been filling in on tour for nearly a year when the departure was made official. Adler departed on good terms, saying he was "thrilled to hear what's going on with them."
• Their logo finally got a makeover in 2026 when they released their 12th album, Into Oblivion, with a modern font, ditching the Papyrus they'd been using for more than 20 years to evoke biblical times. Blythe said the old logo looked like "a falafel restaurant menu."
