Songfacts®:

  • Written by Lamb of God guitarist Willie Adler, this song is about an American soldier who dies after going to war. Using the vivid imagery of a "shattered hourglass," the lyrics are most likely about the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America, and the reaction by the Bush administration, which was going to war with Iraq and escalating a cycle of violence, ultimately claiming the life of the soldier in this song, who believed the lies of the administration.

  • Andrew from Colton, CaMy favorite song off the album! I love the line "You finally made it home, draped in the flag that you fell for" Its speaking of the American flags they drape over the coffins of fallen soldiers.
  • Nick from Beuamont, TxThis song is about the city of Gehenna. Gehenna is cited in the New Testament and in early Christian writing to represent the final place where the wicked will be punished or destroyed after resurrection.
  • Ryan from Anonymous, OnThe song meaning is simple; We've got one world, and we're screwing it up.
