  • In this upbeat country anthem, LeAnn Rimes is ready to ditch an unfulfilling relationship and explore all of the exciting possibilities that life has to offer. Rimes already impressed critics with her debut single, a cover of the little-known '50s ballad "Blue," but her label wanted the 13-year-old singer to record something more contemporary that had hit potential. "One Way Ticket (Because I Can)," released as her third single, gave Rimes her first and only #1 hit on the Country chart.
  • This was written by Judy Rodman, who sang the 1986 country chart-topper "Until I Met You," and Keith Hinton, who co-wrote the 1993 Toby Keith hit "A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action."
  • Rimes reinterpreted this as a heartbreak ballad on her 2018 EP, Re-Imagined. In a 2021 interview with Apple Music, the singer explained how she gleaned a much deeper meaning behind the lyric that her 13-year-old self was unable to comprehend. She said, "It's such a fun uplifting song, but it's interesting because I've taken that song now all these years later and re-imagined it in a way that's like so heartbreaking when you listen to it. It's a completely different take on it. It's kind of my adult version. It's interesting how that song can be kind of taken in two different ways, whether this really uplifting empowerment piece, or still empowering but heartbreaking and knowing the wisdom that is behind it now, of knowing how lonely and tough it can be to really claim yourself in that way of stepping out on your own journey."
  • The music video, directed by Chris Rogers, features Rimes singing around different landmarks in San Francisco, including Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, and the Golden Gate Bridge. You can also spot the same row of Victorian houses shown in the theme song to the '80s sitcom Full House in the background as she performs in the Alamo Square Park.
