  • Lenka couldn't physically be with her friends during the COVID-19 lockdown, but she could still offer support for those who were struggling. In this song, written in the midst of quarantine, she offers to be her friend's winter sun - a positive light during a dark time.

"I was sitting with my ukulele in a stream of winter sun, thinking about a friend who was going through personal tragedy whilst also being isolated in lockdown," the Australian singer-songwriter recalled in a press release. "The warmth of the sun reminded me of friendship and how people can provide that same goodness to each other when times are tough. Right now the world has many devastating things going on, horrible war, intense natural disasters caused by climate change... The darkness is overwhelming, but we need to find room for hope. I hope we can all let rays of gentle sunshine in."
  • Lenka's next single, "Winter Sun," also took inspiration from the loneliness of lockdown. But there was an upside to being trapped at home and unable to tour. The singer staved off boredom by brainstorming ideas to help her small community of Berry in New South Wales, which is how the OpenField Arts Festival came about.

She told Songfacts in a 2023 interview: "A group of creative friends and I felt that there was not enough arts infrastructure in our area to reflect how many artists and culturally engaged people there were. So, we decided to do something about it!"

The inaugural four-day contemporary art and music festival launched in June 2023 with the promise to return in 2025.
