  • For Kmart shoppers a blue electric light meant a surprise sale. It means something very different to Lenny Kravitz: energy, God, love and humanity, and power.

"The song just came to me, I didn't have a choice in the matter," he told Billboard.
  • Kravitz sings some lines in this song that make it sound like he has a specific girl in mind:

    You could be my wife
Come on tell me babe, what you want to do

He wasn't attached to anyone at this time, at least publicly, and ascribed a more universal meaning to the song.
  • "Blue Electric Light" is the last song on Lenny Kravitz' 12th album, and also the title track. He had a different name in mind for the album, but after he recorded this song, his engineer, Craig Ross, suggested it be the name of the album. After listening to the album with the song included, Lenny agreed.
  • Kravitz started working on the album during the pandemic, when he was trapped at his recording studio compound in the Bahamas. He was in no hurry to finish - the album didn't appear until four years later.

When it finally arrived, it was introduced with the lead single "TK421." In the video, Kravitz is mostly naked and looking a lot better than a 59-year-old man should. Later, video of him working out in leather pants and jeans surfaced, further baffling us mere mortals who have succumbed to the ravages of time. As he promoted the album, the media declared a "Lennaissance," fascinated by his effortless cool and robust health.
  • This song is all Lenny. He wrote it, produced it, and played all the instruments, including guitar, synthesizer, and drum machine programming.
