Songfacts®:

  • This song is about those people who let their own apathy and self-loathing dictate their lives. Their negative attitude prevents them from reaching their potential or doing anything productive, and they can bring those around them down with them. The song came at a time when the emo sound was big, and there was a lot of self-pity in popular music. Less Than Jake, with their upbeat ska-rock sound, was a great alternative.
  • Less Than Jake bass player Roger Manganelli sang lead on this track, with guitarist Chris Demakes doing the vocals on the bridge. The lyrics to the Less Than Jake songs are written by their drummer, Vinnie Fiorello, who Demakes describes as "the Phil Collins of our band."
