This is the closing track of Heart Theory
, a concept album that takes listeners through Lindsay Ell
's personal experience of seven stages of grief after a difficult heartbreak.
The psychological framework was first developed by Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in her 1969 book On Death and Dying
. Inspired by her work with terminally ill patients, she postulated that those experiencing grief go through a series of five emotions. Ell adds two more working through shock, denial, bargaining, guilt, anger, depression and acceptance across the record.
