Songfacts®:

  • It's A Dying Art, the title of Little Big Town's 2026 album, has a double meaning. It's about the modern-day tendency to give up on relationships - which influenced the title track - but it's also about the threat to human artistry with the rise of AI in the music industry.

"'Dying Art' is a song about love that can endure when you stick it out," LBT's Karen Fairchild confirmed to the Off The Record podcast. "But it's also a theme that pours through the record about holding on to making art, holding on to what we can do with our voices and instruments and what we can do in a room."
  • To combat the bland perfection of AI-generated music, Fairchild and her co-producer, Gena Johnson, focused on capturing the imperfections that make the songs come alive. "You still can't replace the humanity that happens when harmonies are sung imperfectly. Flat, sharp," she continued. "That is the beauty of why the harmony buzzes and feels like it has life in it. When you take that out, it's very vanilla and stale."
