Songfacts®:

  • In this reflective song, LP (Laura Pergolizzi) thinks about what she would say and do with those who are no longer with her. She explained the meaning in a Songfacts interview: "That one was a message to the people that have died in my life – my parents, the relationships that have died – and thinking how precious they were. I loved all those people, even the people who are still alive that I am not with. You can't go back.

The way the pandemic was going, I was seeing all this horrible stuff with people saying goodbye to loved ones via FaceTime. It really had an effect on me emotionally, thinking about that and trying to tell myself and to tell people to realize how beautiful these moments are, because I would do anything to bring all these people back for one last hug, one last hang, one last drink. Anything."
  • LP opens this song with some of her signature whistling, something she first used back in 2011 on her song "Into The Wild" (the one used in the Citibank commercial with the rock climber). She also breaks out the whistle in her 2015 hit "Lost on You."
  • The chorus is punctuated by reverberant chant of "la-lie-lie-lie," which has a gospel feel, like it's being sung in church. It's reminiscent of the Simon & Garfunkel song "The Boxer" - they had to lug recording gear to an actual church to get the sound because there was no plug-in for it in 1965.
  • LP's love interest in the video is played by Jaime King, whose credits include the 2005 movie Sin City, the 2009 film My Bloody Valentine and the Lana Del Rey video for "Summertime Sadness." Stephen Schofield directed the video, which shows LP in a church and at a baroque dinner party, where she is pulled away by two goons and tossed into a car. The storyline continues in LP's video for her next single, "Goodbye."
  • LP wrote this song with James New and Josef Simon Sebastian Page, who both previously worked with Dua Lipa.
