Songfacts®:

  • Luke Bryan came on the scene in 2007 with a debut album, I'll Stay Me, filled with songs about family, fun, fishing... and trucks.

In this song, he reminisces on his childhood in rural Georgia, where he learned about life on the farm, at football games, and in that famous red dirt by the Flint River. And he did most of it riding in trucks, used for both work and play.
  • Luke Bryan had more life experience than the average Nashville cat when he moved to the city from Georgia in 2001 at 25. He stayed in his home state to attend college (Georgia Southern University) and work on his family's peanut farm. One reason he stayed close by was to support his parents after his older brother Chris was killed in a car accident in 1996.

Bryan made a lot of connections in Nashville and built a fanbase with lots of local shows. During this time, his girlfriend, Caroline Boyer, paid the bills with her job as a pharmaceutical rep; they got married in 2006.
  • Bryan wrote this song with Roger Murrah and Jim McCormick. Murrah's co-writes include "We're In This Love Together" by Al Jarreau and "High Cotton" by Alabama. McCormick also wrote "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" by Brantley Gilbert and "Take a Little Ride" by Jason Aldean.
  • "We Rode In Trucks" was Bryan's second single, following "All My Friends Say." Both songs got music videos directed by Shaun Silva with lots of Georgia flavor.
