Songfacts®:

  • "Priceless" is a lightly funky, easy-listening pop track with a message that love cannot be measured in material terms. No price tag, no receipt, not even store credit. Just pure, unquantifiable devotion.
  • The track is built around a warm, jangly guitar motif that wouldn't have felt out of place on one of Maroon 5's early-2000s records. Frontman Adam Levine recorded the guitar intro on his iPhone with an unplugged guitar. "I actually got a little emotional recording 'cause it was sort of reconnecting to our roots," he said, "which a lot of our fans have been saying 'Hey we want to hear that sound again."
  • Lisa, of BlackPink fame, joins the proceedings with an assertive rap in the second verse, adding a modern, empowered perspective.
  • Maroon 5 have a history of teaming up with A-list female solo stars on singles, including:

"Moves Like Jagger" (featuring Christina Aguilera)
    "What Lovers Do" (featuring SZA)
    "Girls Like You"(featuring Cardi B)
"Beautiful Mistakes" (featuring Megan Thee Stallion)

However, "Priceless" was Maroon 5's first collaboration with a K-pop artist.
  • Adam Levine handled the high-gloss production along with Maroon 5 bassist Sam Farrar, Federico Vindver, JKash, and Mailbox. Levine, Farrar, Vindver and JKash also wrote the song alongside Lisa, Michael Pollack, Ali Tamposi, and Rhea Raj.
  • The music video, directed by Aerin Moreno (Tate McRae, Madison Beer) was shot entirely on 35mm film in downtown Los Angeles. Inspired by the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, it depicts Levine and Lisa as a pair of assassins.
  • Adam Levine wrote "Priceless" as a tribute to his wife, Behati Prinsloo. It was the first track he penned for Maroon 5's eighth album.

"The song kind of, you know, being about my wife, was the first song out the gates that felt good, felt positive, really positive, and fun," he said. "It's hard to explain, but it just instantly hit me."
  • Maroon 5 chose Lisa specifically for "Priceless" because her sweetness matched the song's vibe.
