Songfacts®:

  • For Megan Moroney, June 28th used to be a day sweeter than pecan pie at the county fair. Now, thanks to a love gone south, it's a calendar reminder that just plain stings.

During this piano ballad, Moroney paints a picture of a past anniversary filled with hope and red wine, promises whispered like sweet nothings. But by fall, that fairytale love story went belly-up faster than a barn dance on a Friday night.

Now, every June 28th is a slap in the face with a rose-colored memory. Moroney wrestles with her feelings, wonders if her ex is two-stepping with someone new, and just longs for the day this date feels like... well, just another Tuesday.
  • Moroney co-wrote the song alongside singer-songwriter Ben Williams and siblings Micah and Mackenzie Carpenter. The same four also penned her single "I'm Not Pretty." Williams also helped Moroney write her breakthrough single, "Tennessee Orange."
  • For "28th Of June," producer Kristian Bush took a different approach. Forget fancy studio bells and whistles – this ballad is all about raw emotion. Bush stripped the track down to its bare bones, leaving Moroney face-to-face with a piano and a memory that just won't quit.
