Songfacts®:

  • Many of Michael Head's songs come from observation. This character sketch was born in Birkenhead, on the water opposite Liverpool, with his girlfriend of the time. "I was making these little 40-second movies, filming these two buskers, and they were amazing," he told Mojo magazine. "He's about 70, s--t hot, she was obviously his partner, maybe 20 years younger. She was playing a box drum and they're knocking out the blues-rock stuff, but it was the look of absolute love and devotion as she watched him that inspired it.

The only time I'd seen that look of admiration before was watching Tina Weymouth looking at David Byrne when they were doing 'Psycho Killer' on The Old Grey Whistle Test. Wow! I know I'm married to the drummer but I f---ing love you! I just imagined the story of Grace and Eddie from that moment."
  • Hailing from Liverpool, Michael Head is a true legend in the English rock scene. He started his journey back in the 1980s as the founder, frontman, and chief songwriter of the fondly remembered indie pop band The Pale Fountains. The group split up in 1987, with Mick Head going on to form Shack with his guitarist brother John.

In September 2013, Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band released their debut record, an EP titled Artorius Revisited. Head has continued to release music with the Red Elastic Band in the years since.
  • Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band released their second full-length album, Dear Scott, on June 3, 2022. Produced by Bill Ryder-Jones, formerly of the Coral, it was laid down at Rockfield Studios in Wales. Dear Scott was met with critical acclaim and peaked at #6 on the official UK chart, Michael Head's first UK Top 10 album.
