Songfacts®:

  • "Till the Morning Comes" is the final track on Side One of After The Gold Rush. At one minute and seventeen seconds, it's the shortest track on the album, beating "Cripple Creek Ferry" for that honor by 17 seconds.

The song has a distinctly country feel, featuring French horn and piano. Stephen Stills provided background harmonies. The only lyrics are: "I'm gonna give you till the morning comes" and "I'm only waiting till the morning comes," with "till the morning comes" repeated over and over again.
  • Young didn't perform the song live until January 25, 2016, when he performed it the Théatre Mogador in Paris during a private performance for French billionaire Édouard Carmignac.
  • The placement of this song and "Cripple Creek Ferry" at the end of each side of After The Gold Rush is reminiscent of Young's choice to start the two sides of his self-titled debut album with "The Emperor Of Wyoming" and "String Quartet from Whiskey Boot Hill."

In both cases, short, simple songs with country music grooves mirror each other's positions on each side of an album. On Neil Young, they end each side. On Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, they start.
