Songfacts®:

  • This song was released as Nick Jonas & the Administration's second single despite not being included on their self-titled debut album.
  • Nick showcased this song live during a concert at Warner Theater in Washington, DC on January 6, 2010. Prior to the performance, he tweeted concerning the song's meaning. "Its about fallin' for someone," he revealed before then posting part of the lyrics, "Now that the pain is done, no need to be afraid, we don't have time to waste, just tell me that you'll stay. Beautiful, one of a kind. You're something special babe, and you don't even realize that your my hearts desire. Its hard to believe where we are now, your hand in mine feels right somehow."
  • Nick told MTV News that the song came to him while he was on the road. "'Stay' is a song that I wrote that day we had off in Washington," he explained. "It came after some things that I was going through that really inspired it... and I'm just in a good place right now and was able to get a song out of it, which is always nice."
  • Nick told Shine On Media about "Stay": "It's a song that is real to me in this moment. I think that may be why the performance of the song is so emotional…There are things that you use to inspire you that sometimes you need to keep to yourself. As far as what it's about, I think the lyrics are pretty self explanatory and hopefully people are trying to figure it out if they can."
