Songfacts®:

  • Megatron is the main antagonist in the longstanding toy/cartoon/movie series Transformers. He is the leader and warlord of the Decepticons, a faction of extra-terrestrial robotic lifeforms who serve as nemesis of the Autobots.
  • Nicki Minaj kicks things off on this dancehall rager by comparing herself to the titular villain.

They call me Megatron, just did a telethon
He got Margielas on, and I get my jealous on

Minaj has been at the top of the rap game for a long time; she considers herself hardcore like the Decepticon warlord.
  • Though the song is titled after a video character, it is primarily a party track dedicated to Minaj's sex life, alcoholic intake and wealth.
  • It seems Minaj has an affinity with Megatron. She previously likened herself to him on Future's 2018 track "Transformer" when she rapped:

I'm still the bad guy, I am a Decepticon
Some call me Nicki but some call me Megatron
  • The song was produced by Andrew "Pop" Wansel; he was helped by Nova Wav (Blu Jane and Brittany Coney) and Minaj herself. The quartet also co-wrote the track with additional help from Haldane Brown (Cheryl Cole's "Goodbye Means Hello").
  • The celebratory video was directed by Mike Ho. It features Minaj in the club, pool and jungle, and we also see some steamy scenes with her boyfriend Kenneth Petty.
  • Nicki Minaj shared on Twitter that Petty's cameo came after she woke him up from a nap and immediately put him in front of the camera.

"He had fallen asleep in my dressing room. He was mad aggy. He was grumbling all the way to the set talking bout how cold he was. I said 'Boy go over there and be quiet.' Once he saw the video he was cheesing nonstop."
