  • Noelle Scaggs is the co-lead singer/songwriter of the neo-soul band Fitz and the Tantrums. Prior to the band releasing their fourth studio album, All The Feels, in 2019, Scaggs issued her solo album, Great For You. In the vulnerable title track, the lonely singer pines for someone she knows isn't good for her, but she thinks she'd be great for them.
  • In a 2023 Songfacts interview, Scaggs said she doesn't really consider herself a solo artist because she loves to collaborate with other people. For this ballad, she teamed up with Johnny What, Thorald Koren, and Isaac Koren of the LA-based band BRAVES. "That song gave me an opportunity to do something with friends that I have been writing with for a year or two before that song had even come out," she explained. "They brought something out of me vocally with my approach to my songwriting, and I really enjoyed that. 'Great For You' was one of those songs."
  • Scaggs had been writing outside of Fitz and the Tantrums for a while and found she did her best work with BRAVES. "They always manage to help me get the real gems out of my sad love stories," she told Create & Cultivate in 2020. "We worked on 'Great For You' on and off for about a year, just trying to find the right thing. I sat on it for a while then asked Johnny to have a crack at producing a track for it, I threw him some references and he came back with what I felt was undeniable for me sonically. It hit all the right notes."
  • Scaggs embarked on another project outside of The Tantrums: In 2020, she founded Diversify The Stage, a program designed to make the music industry more inclusive by creating business opportunities for people in the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, among others. The idea took shape during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when touring shut down, and Scaggs found herself contemplating her role in the industry.

"I was really empowered to create Diversify the Stage out of need and out of recognizing there's a lack of education about career paths in this industry, so I created a platform to enable you to learn about it," she told Songfacts. "I created, along with my team, an ability for people to give back in time, resources, space, and finances, to support young people who are trying to enter the space, so that when there is a turnover of hiring, there's a larger pool of candidates to pull from."
