Songfacts®:

  • Cokie The Clown is the creation of NOFX frontman Fat Mike, who describes him as "a bitter birthday clown who gets out of rehab and takes petty revenge on his audience by dosing them with various drugs."
  • Fat Mike turned Cokie into a performance art, going in character as the deranged clown for a few solo acoustic concert sets, including at the South by Southwest festival in 2010. Cokie would tell very disturbing stories between songs, making the audience rather uncomfortable. For instance, he would talk about the death of his father and explain what it was like going to the funeral. It was particularly confusing for anyone who wasn't in on the joke.
  • NOFX made a music video for the song featuring Cokie and his antics. His signature move was blasting people with white powder from a big flower on his lapel. It was just flour, but implied cocaine.

Cokie was made possible because Fat Mike is his own boss, owner of the label Fat Wreck Chords, which put out NOFX' music.
