Songfacts®:

  • Over an upbeat, summery melody, Old Dominion frontman Matthew Ramsey reminisces about the past. He evokes memories of sunsets, jean jackets, and the desire to remain young and carefree, lost in paradise.
  • Ramsey co-wrote "Memory Lane" with Old Dominion bandmates Trevor Rosen and Brad Tursi alongside Jessie Jo Dillon (Cole Swindell's "Break Up In The End," Dan + Shay's "10,000 Hours"). They penned it during a January 24, 2022 writing appointment at Tursi's home.
  • According to Ramsey, he took inspiration for the song from those memories that provide a sense of comfort and nostalgia when one is feeling overwhelmed or missing someone. These reminiscences, whether they be of a specific place, person, or feeling, serve as a mental retreat that can be accessed at any time. "I think we all have that time in our life that will remain forever perfect in our hearts," he said. "Sometimes we wish we could just stay there and never leave."
