Songfacts®:

  • This was inspired by Nutini's relationship with his girlfriend Teri Brogan. They broke up shortly before Paolo left for London but got back again after he recorded this song.

Much of Nutini's debut album These Streets was inspired by Brogan. He wrote some of the songs when they had broken up when he was 16. About a week before he began actually recording the album, Nutini and Brogan ran into each other at a bar and began dating again. He discussed with Hot Press the unusual situation: "Recording all those songs about kind of longing for someone when they just came back into your life was very strange. It would have been a bit convenient if it was just after the record had been released (laughs)."

  • Fatou from DakarI do think a middle-aged black man actually sang this song quite some time ago. I cannot remember his name right now and I cannot believe Nutini is now taking all the credit.
  • Emma from Suffolk, United Kingdomi love paolo nutini i think his voice is so calm and soothing.
makes me feel all tingly when i listen to anyone of his songs. they are the type of songs u can listen to all day and never get bored. the lyrics to his songs are unbelievable i love the emotion,
and i have to admit he is GORGEOUS
  • Richel from Santa Ana, Cafirst time hearing this...i thought i was listening to a middle-aged black man...=P...
i love paolo and the way he performs - from the way he incorporates that ridiculously brilliant accent to his songs and his wasted stance...don't ever change paolo...you changed me and my view on music
