Songfacts®:

  • "Tonight" is a synth-driven, bassline-laced bop with direct and flirty lyrics. PinkPantheress asks her romantic interest, quite plainly: "You want sex with me?"
  • This song is something of a departure for PinkPantheress, who's usually known more for wistful introspection than for, well, propositioning shy crushes. Speaking with fans on Twitter Spaces, she explained why her music usually skews PG:

"Because I know my parents listen to my music," she said. "I never say anything too explicit because I always feel like they're watching... It's 'cause I got the strict parents - Kenyan mom, African mom, you're not getting away with a lot of stuff."
  • Released on April 4, 2025, as the lead single from her PinkPantheress' second mixtape, Fancy That, "Tonight" leans into her glossier, synth-pop side - the same aesthetic she flirted with on tracks like "Turn It Up" and her debut album, Heaven Knows (2023). It's a slight pivot from the UK garage stylings of her earlier breakout mixtape, To Hell With It (2021), but still unmistakably Pink.
  • PinkPantheress co-wrote and co-produced the song with Count Baldor (her partner-in-pop from "Angel," recorded for the Barbie soundtrack standout) and Aksel Arvid, who also contributed to other Fancy That tracks.
  • "Tonight" samples the orchestral arrangement and strings from Panic! at the Disco's "Do You Know What I'm Seeing?" from their 2008 album Pretty. Odd.
  • Directed by Charlotte Rutherford, who also helmed Pink's "Nice To Meet You," the video is a riotous Regency-meets-rave fantasy. PinkPantheress and her powdered-wigged companions romp through a manor house party complete with corsets, kisses, pillow fights, and surreal moments like a man stepping out of a portrait. It's the kind of video that makes you wonder if Jane Austen would have been a fan of 808s and eyeliner.
  • "Tonight" was one of nine tracks PinkPantheress recorded for Fancy That. "I created the beats on my laptop and then I sent them to this producer I was working with from Norway called Axsel," she told Billboard. "We went back-and-forth and made the beats and I recorded really quickly. It was done in like two months."
  • PinkPantheress revealed in a TikTok post that she produced "Tonight" using nothing but her MacBook keyboard.

"Everyone's been so cute about my production, so I'm going to show you how I made my song 'Tonight' off of Fancy That," she explained.

In the video, she demonstrates how she manually enters chords using Logic Pro's Musical Typing function, a feature that allows users to play notes directly on their computer keys rather than using an external MIDI controller.

In her caption, PinkPantheress offered a bit of encouragement for bedroom producers: "MIDI controllers can be expensive! Inputting them into whatever software you use works just as well."

She walked viewers through her workflow, showing how she adds bass and pitch-shifts various stems, before noting that she eventually enlisted Count Baldor to handle the drum programming.
