Songfacts®:

  • Here, Pop Smoke and frequent collaborator Lil Tjay graphically describe their bedroom intimacy with their women. The song title alludes to the "mood swings" of Pop's girlfriend when she realizes the rapper is making love to her without a condom.
  • Bronx MC Lil Tjay was Pop Smoke's most frequent rapping partner during his lifetime. Their best known collaboration was Tjay's State of Emergency track "Zoo York," which peaked at #65 on the Hot 100.
  • Smoke and Tjay wrote the song along with the track's producers, Beat Menace (6ix9ine's "Billy") and Dizzy Banko (Lil Wayne's "Bloody Mary"). Beat Menace and Dizzy Banks first began working together in 2018 after connecting during a Dave East studio session.
  • The song is a track on Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, which was released a few months after Pop Smoke's death. The record landed at #1 on the albums chart with Pop Smoke becoming the first act in hip hop-history to have a posthumous debut longplayer arrive at the top of the tally.
  • All 19 Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon tracks landed on the Billboard Hot 100 and although many of them disappeared from the chart after a few weeks, "Mood Swings" proved to be a lasting hit. This came about from the song trending on Tik Tok videos involving people commenting on someone's attractiveness.
  • The video features Lil Tjay and his girlfriend Lalaas as they go through their relationship issues after a fight.
