Songfacts®:

  • Written by Post Malone with his frequent collaborator Louis Bell ("Congratulations," "Rockstar"), this was originally recorded for the 2017 action film The Fate of the Furious. The song was released on October 20, 2017 as the second single from Beerbongs & Bentleys, peaking at #58 on the US Hot 100. In the week following the release of the album on May 4, 2018, "Candy Paint" returned to the chart at #34.
  • Candy paint refers to a metallic automotive finish, which is a translucent color coat that shines in the sunlight, giving it a candy-like appearance. It was first created by American car customizer Joe Bailon (1923 –2017). He came up with the paint color Candy Apple Red, which eventually led to a full spectrum of candy paint colors.

Lambo doors are the oo-op drop

Post Malone's custom Ford Explorer has blue candy paint with a separate white finish on top and Lamborghini-style doors.
  • Aside from references to luxury vehicles, "Candy Paint" also mentions The Office's Michael Scott, the regional manager for the TV show's fictional paper company played by Steve Carell.

God damn I love paper, like I'm Michael Scott
I can do things that your man cannot

Michael Scott is known to be very fond of paper. Post Malone is talking about a different kind of paper, the kind you keep in your wallet.
