Songfacts®:

  • QOTSA frontman Josh Homme first debuted this slow-building meditation on longing and loyalty in 2014 at an acoustic concert for James Lavelle's Meltdown Festival. He told Rolling Stone: "I wrote that in a hotel in Austria, and it all came at once, which is a real luxury and a rarity. A couple of days later, I played it acoustically at Meltdown. It just felt really natural that way."
  • This is a love song, where due to "villains of circumstance," Josh Homme finds himself far away from the one he loves.

Close your eyes and dream me home
Forever mine, I'll be forever yours
Always, evermore, and on and on

Josh Homme explained to News.com.au: "'Dream me home' is when you lay your head down and across a vast ocean, someone else is laying their down and you can say all the words you know but it doesn't matter, you're still oceans apart. And they don't understand, you know."
  • The song is the closing track of QOTSA's seventh studio album, Villains. The record title is a nod to old school rock 'n roll bad boys. Josse Homme told Q magazine:

"In this day and age when everyone's trying to be like, or get 'Likes,' I don't really give a s--t about that. Maybe we should go for 'Dislikes' instead. I feel like, f--k everyone, I'll be you're villain."
