Songfacts®:

  • Bass player Eddie Jackson wrote this song with guitarist Chris Degarmo. The latter spoke about the penning of the tune to Screaming in Digital: "'Hit The Black' is kind of a very warped journey of self-discovery. It's definitely got a certain turbulence to it. Some people find themselves by hitting the bottom, basically. They have to bottom out before they can really see, before they can see things for what they are. That song is about that, bottoming out to find one's self."
