Songfacts®:

  • This romantic ballad was Ricky Martin's follow-up to "Livin' La Vida Loca," his breakout hit in America. Martin was primarily a balladeer before landing on the high-energy Latin sound that made him famous, but most of his songs were in Spanish to this point. "She's All I Ever Had" and "Vida Loca" were both part of his first English album, Ricky Martin, his fifth overall.
  • The song was written by Robi Rosa, Jon Secada and George Noriega. Rosa was Martin's main songwriter, dating back to his international hit "Maria" in 1995. Jon Secada was a popular singer in the early '90s, with "Just Another Day" and "Do You Believe In Us" among his hits. He also sang backup on the track.
  • In the music video, directed by Nigel Dick, Martin is a ghost who visits the girl in the terrestrial world. In the end, they come together on a different dimension.

The girl in the video is Charlotte Ayanna, a former Miss Teen USA who appears in the movies Jawbreaker and Training Day.
  • This is one of many of many Ricky Martin songs from this time where he's singing about his love for a woman. His heterosexual Latin lover image made it hard for him to reveal that he was gay, which he finally did in 2010. He received overwhelming support and continued singing songs like this one in concert.
