  • Hailing from the Georgia small town of Cedartown, Sam Hunt is proud of his Southern heritage where folks raise their kids among old fashioned values and wide-open spaces. That sentiment rings true in "Country House."

"I'm at a place in my life where I moved from the country off to the city to pursue my country music dreams," said Hunt, his voice laced with a touch of wanderlust and a heap of nostalgia. "And I find myself feeling the pull back towards a simple life like the one that I grew up with, and especially hoping to give that experience to my kids, and this song captures that for me."
  • This isn't some solo effort, mind you. Hunt teamed up with his longtime writing partner Josh Osborne, along with Ross Copperman and producer Michael Lotten, to craft this slice of Southern comfort. Osborne started the melody with Copperman, then tossed it Hunt's way, and he made it his own.

"The phrase 'Country House,' I connected with immediately," said Hunt. "I initially thought, when I think 'Country House,' I think of the English countryside. Obviously, I grew up in the South, but there is a strong connection between my Southern roots and the English countryside, so that country house feel. So, I took the 'Country House' idea and sprinkled some rural Southern."
  • Lotten's production has a relaxed tempo with a mix of acoustic guitar and subtle electronic beats, reflecting the blend of traditional and contemporary styles.
  • Hunt recorded "Country House" for his Locked Up EP. A father of two little children, Hunt connected with the themes of the four tracks.

"They reflect this season of my life that I've been in," he told Billboard. "Getting older and writing from different perspectives now than I did early on. When you're finished with the project. You're always looking forward to that next one."
  • Hunt has sung about his small town roots on several previous tracks, including "Break Up In A Small Town" and "Start Nowhere."
  • The "Country House" video shows Sam Hunt and his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, enjoying a peaceful life together in a charming country home. Also starring are their 2-year-old daughter Lucy Louise (known as "Weesie") and 11-month-old son Lowry Lee. Hunt's brothers, Ben and Van, and their families also make a cameo, adding to the cozy, homey vibe.
  • When he wrote "Country House," Sam Hunt lived in a small, rustic cabin tucked away in the woods - a setting that directly inspired it.
  • When Hunt first recorded the vocal for "Country House" during a writing session, it was meant to be just a rough demo, but the take captured such a raw, natural feeling that they never re-recorded it, and it became the final version you hear on the track.
  • In the opening line of "Country House," Hunt sets the tone with a vivid, don't-mess-with-me image:

Bible by the bed, double barrel by the door

So, does Sam Hunt actually keep a shotgun propped by the front door?

Turns out the answer is... sort of.

"There is a double-barrel, a few, actually," Hunt confirmed to Taste Of Country Nights. "But they're not quite by the front door, they're off to the side."

Translation: Probably best not to drop by unannounced.
